Does anyone know the name of the Jewish candle stick that holds 7 candles?

It is called a menorah. However it is supposed to have 8 branches alongside each other and a 9th, taller branch in the middle for the candle we call a 'Shamesh'. This candle is used to light the other 8 candles each night of Hanukka. The Menorah in the Temple, however, had 7 branches.

a menorrah
Reply:the Menorah
Reply:It is a menorah; "menorah" is just a Hebrew word for candelabra, regardless of how many branches it has. A Channukiah, a Hannukah menorah, has 9 branches; a temple/sanctuary menorah has seven, and many Sabbath/Shabbos menorahs have three. One of those is always a "sh'mash" - a "helper" candle that is taller than the rest; those remaining should all be at the same level to be "kosher."

Reply:menorah but it has candles for eight days with an extra to light the others that one is called a shamash. because in the time of the temple they were in war and were low on oil to light menorah (which needed to be lit every day in the temple) and they had enough for one day. But it lasted for 8 days.

but that is NOT the one used on chanukah. the one used on that holiday has room for 9 candles. 8 for the 8 crazy nights of chanukah, and 1 more with which to light the other ones. that one is actually called a chanukia.

the one with 7 is the traditional menorah which was used in ancient times but is not used anymore. now it's just a symbol of judaism.
Reply:Yes, but since you're in the Hanukkah section the one used at Hanukkah is called a "hanukkiah".
