Is Jacobson a Jewish name?

Its my middle name, after the doctor that delivered me, would it be Jewish? I'm not Jewish, but is it traditionally a Jewish name? Jews help me on this one.

Is Jacobson a Jewish name?
It could be or could not be. Some names scream "Jewish" but that does not mean the person has to be Jewish. Feldheim is a person that might be Jewish. However, names like Gold, Miller, Stone etc. are names that might be Jewish or might not. Just a plain old name. I have met Jews named McWhorter, Murphy, Garcia and Chang too. Those names actually would lead one to believe the person is not Jewish.

I do know some people named Jacobson who are Jewish but I am sure there are many who are not.

Ask you mom or dad. Maybe they know.
Reply:While many Jews do have that name, it is not a name that is particularly Jewish. A Lutheran pastor I know also has this as his last name, as does a family in my parish.
Reply:answer: it could be Jewish, it could be Slavic, it could be Scottish

Jacob's son

does it matter what religion your mother's doctor practiced?
Reply:Since Jacob is a Jewish name, then yes, Jacobson is Jewish..
Reply:A Jewish name would be a last name, first names or middle name might be from a country.
Reply:If it's a surname, it *can* be Jewish. Not necessarily though.

Reply:Nordic.

John's son = Johnson.

Swen's son = Swenson
Reply:Maybe maybe not..If he was Jewish so what's the diff?
