Brooklyn (named after the Dutch town Breukelen)
Brooklyn a jewish name?
no
Reply:Uh, no, very old Dutch name. My Grandfather was Dutch.
Reply:Nope. Dutch. In fact, if you look around, you will see a lot of Dutch names in New York. The word Kills? Refers to water and rivers. Brooklyn was originally spelled Breukelen, New Utrecht: in 1657, after the city of Utrecht, Netherlands
Bushwick: as "Boswijck" in 1661.
A lot of places are named after original settlers. In PA (suburbs of Philly), we have a lot of Welsh names. And you haven't sprained your tongue until you've tried to pronounce those! ;-)
Reply:No! It is Dutch.
