Because they do not want you to know that God's name is Tom Cruise
Why do Jewish clerics keep the True Name of God concealed and when will they release it to the public?
It is a matter of superstition. Only the high priest was to pronounce the name and only on the day of Atonement, when he was in the Holy of Holies. So, in the old days (when there was a temple), the other priests would be listening to hear what the pronunciation was. But when the High Priest came to the part in which he was to say the name, he would whisper it, so people outside the Holy of Holies could not hear it.
Over the years even the high priests lost track of what the pronunciation was. They will never release the name because they no longer know it.
Reply:I think you've misunderstood something you've read or heard. NO-ONE knows what the pronunciation of YHVH was meant to be. It was only ever spoken by the High Priest in the Holy of Holies in the Temple in Jerusalem on Yom Kippur. It is now lost.
We honour the tradition by not putting vowels in and finding a pronunciation. Instead, we call G-d by one of the many other names we use.
Reply:Actually according to Jews, the abrahamic god has many true names, some of which are known and some of which are not. I can list some right here if you really want to see. A few examples would be: Adonai, Tetragrammaton, Sadai...
Reply:lol... i like the name of the second

Jewish leaders keep the name of God concealed because it is so utterly Holy to them that to merely say it will show disrespect to their God.
Reply:The Tetragrammaton, or four lettered name, was outlawed many years before Christ and the people who knew how to say it died off. Recall that Hebrew does not have written vowels, and using different vowels with the same consonants can create a completely different word.
Reply:answer: as other have said. The name is no longer known. If it was it wouldn't be released to the public. Why should it? Everyone has their way of talking to G-d: Eloheim, Adonay, HaShem, Lord, G-d, Allah, etc.
Jehovah and Yahweh are not the names of G-d, btw.
Reply:Because they didn't want the Jewish people to use his name in vain. Makes sense to me.
Reply:If every one knew that Xenu was his name, oh man, PR NIGHTMARE!
