Is "Jude" an appropriate name for a Jewish baby boy?

My husband and I love the name, but are afraid that it might not be suitable for our son. "Judah" is the more popular incarnation of "Yehuda" for Jewish boys, but we just don't like it as much.

I would go with Jude, if you like it better. It is just a version of the same name as Yehuda and Judah. It sounds more up-to-date. My son's younger boy is Jude, so I'm partial to it now. The older boy is Ariel, which I worry that every kid out there thinks it's the Little Mermaid's name! They call him Ari, which sounds good to me. I remember when I was a kid that a lot of kids my age were named "after" an older relative with a very old-timey name, but they were named something similar with the same initial, or the modern version.
Reply:If you like the name, name your child that. I think it's a very nice name for a little boy.
Reply:yea
Reply:I know Jewish boys named Aiden and Connor.

It really depends on how traditional you are, but I think Jude is a valid variant of Judah - and so perfectly acceptable.
Reply:LOL.....Jude is my son's name. I named him that because I always liked that name. Although, we are not Jewish. Overall, it is a great name.
Reply:i like jude
Reply:"hey Jude'
Reply:I don't know if it is unsuitable, but I haven't heard of it as a Jewish boy's name before. I have heard of it as a girl's name, though.

If you like it a lot, perhaps cover your bets, naming him "Yehudah" but giving him "Jude" as his nickname.
Reply:yes
Reply:I have no idea what the problem would be in naming a Jewish boy Jude, but I like it.
Reply:I love it. Top name regardless of religion
Reply:I think it's a great name. You could always name him Juddah and call him Jude if it bothers you a lot.
