Jonas:
English, German, French, Jewish (Ashkenazic), Lithuanian, Czech and Slovak (Jonáš), and Hungarian (Jónás): from a medieval personal name, which comes from the Hebrew male personal name Yona, meaning ‘dove’.
To know the ancestry you must do the research, you can't go only by the surname.
And if you decided that everyone with a biblical first name was Jewish, you would be wrong, wrong, wrong.
So what is your problem?
Are the jonas brothers jewish. look at their names. jonas is a jewish last name?
Are the Jonas brothers of Hebrew or Jewish desent? I know they are christian but what are they? Italian? Greek? English? French? Im trying to figure out what their ancestory is. Report Abuse

Adam is, besides Jewish and Biblical, also English, French, German, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian. This is the Hebrew word for "man". It could be ultimately derived from Hebrew אדם ('adam) meaning "to be red", referring to the ruddy color of human skin, or from Assyrian "adamu" meaning "to make".

Saint Caoimhin established a monastery in Glendalough, Ireland in the 6th century and is the patron saint of Dublin.
Nicholas is English, %26amp; French . From the Greek name Νικολαος (Nikolaos) which meant "victory of the people" from Greek νικη (nike) "victory" and λαος (laos) "people". Reply:Any name can be Jewish. A lot of names in the U.S. are identified as Jewish as a large portion of immigrants with those name were Jewish while back in the countries they came from the same name was used by Jews and non Jews.
Also, Orthodox and Conservative Judaism defines a Jew by the mother, not the father.
A person gets their surname from the father.
They state they get the nation from the mother and the tribe from the father and if they don't have a Jewish father they belong to the tribe of the nearest male relative on the mother's side of the family. If they don't have a Jewish mother, they aren't Jewish.
Reform Judaism sees it differently.
Reply:No, they are Christian. Their father was a pastor at their local church in New Jersey.
