Is prukop a jewish name?

just curious. its kinda a rare last name. what nation is its origin?

Is prukop a jewish name?
There are Prokups in the Jewish records from Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Galacia.

Immigrants also came from Romania and Hungary.

If you want to know about your particular Prokups, you will have to do the research.
Reply:Not very many exclusively Jewish names. A lot of names in the U.S. are considered Jewish as a large portion of immigrants to this country with certain names were Jewish while back in their country of origin, the same name was used by Jews and non Jews.

Jews are not in agreement on what is a Jew.

Reform Jews define a Jew by the religion alone.

Orthodox and Conservative Judaism defines a Jew by the mother alone, not the father nor necessarily the religion. If they don't have a Jewish mother, the only way they can be considered Jewish is to convert per Orthodox and Conservative Judaism. As long as you have a Jewish mother even though you no longer consider yourself a member of the Jewish faith, the Orthodox will say you are still a Jew.
